Between work, school pickups and the reality of Auckland traffic, driving across town to collect a cake is rarely the best use of a Saturday morning. Delivery has quietly become the default — and the questions people ask are always the same: what will it cost, will it arrive in one piece, and can it come today?

This guide answers all three, and explains how cake delivery across Auckland actually works at Le Sud Pâtisserie.

What actually determines the delivery fee

There is no flat metro rate, and any studio quoting one is building the average into every order. Our fee is calculated on your actual address, and you see it at checkout before you pay. Five things drive it.

1. Distance from our kitchen

We bake in Papatoetoe, so South Auckland addresses are naturally the cheapest to reach. The further out you are, the higher the fee — it is that straightforward.

2. The delivery window

A cake that can go out within our normal run costs less than one that needs a specific narrow window slotted around an event.

3. Same-day versus pre-order

Same-day deliveries carry a premium because they are squeezed into a schedule already in motion. Ordering a few days ahead is both cheaper and gives you far more choice of cake.

4. How fragile the cake is

A dense chocolate cake travels easily. A fresh cream, mousse or Chantilly cake needs chilled transport and careful handling, which is why some designs cost a little more to deliver.

5. Traffic and route

Crossing the harbour bridge or threading through the CBD at 5pm is a different job from a suburban drop-off. Where a route is genuinely difficult, the fee reflects it.

Typical delivery costs by region

As a rough guide, Auckland cake delivery generally lands somewhere between $10 and $40 NZD. Where you sit in that range depends mostly on distance:

• South Auckland — Papatoetoe, Māngere, Ōtāhuhu, Manukau, Flat Bush, Papakura, Takanini. Usually the lowest fee, as this is our home patch.
• East Auckland — Howick, Pakuranga, Botany, Dannemora. A moderate fee.
• Central Auckland & CBD — Parnell, Newmarket, Epsom, Ponsonby, Grey Lynn, the city centre. Slightly higher, largely down to traffic and parking.
• West Auckland — New Lynn, Henderson, Massey, Westgate. Higher, on distance.
• North Shore — Takapuna, Devonport, Albany. Higher again, with the harbour crossing factored in — available by arrangement.

Where we deliver across Auckland

We deliver city-wide, and regularly to Papatoetoe, Māngere, Ōtāhuhu, Manukau, Flat Bush, Botany, Howick, Pakuranga, Papakura, Takanini, Mount Wellington, Penrose, Ellerslie, Epsom, Newmarket, Remuera, Parnell, the Auckland CBD, Ponsonby, Grey Lynn, One Tree Hill, Titirangi, New Lynn, Henderson and the North Shore by arrangement.

How your cake travels

Most of the damage done to delivered cakes happens in the last ten minutes, not the journey. A few things we do to prevent it:

• Chilled transport for cream, mousse and ganache finishes, so nothing slumps on a warm afternoon.
• Non-slip, level boxing — the cake is secured in its box rather than left to slide.
• Delivered assembled where possible, so delicate decorations arrive as designed rather than in pieces for you to reconstruct.
• A message on the box where you have asked for one, plus storage guidance for the hours before serving.

If something does arrive less than perfect, tell us the same day. We would much rather know.

Same-day and next-day delivery

Birthdays are not always planned, and a good part of what we deliver goes out on the day it was ordered. Selected cakes can be made available for same-day delivery, and next-day is often possible for a wider range.

Order by 9am for same-day delivery. Slots are limited and fill quickly, so the earlier you order, the more likely it is you will get one. Simple designs travel and schedule more easily than elaborate ones, and being flexible on flavour genuinely helps.

If your date is tight, order as early as you can and note the timing in your order — we will confirm what is achievable rather than leave you guessing.

Gluten-free, vegan and dairy-free cakes, delivered

Dietary cakes are not a side line here. We deliver gluten-free birthday cakes and vegan, eggless and dairy-free cakes across Auckland with the same care as the rest of the range, including combinations — gluten-free and vegan together, for instance.

Offices, hotels and the CBD

Delivering to a workplace or hotel is a different job from delivering to a home, and we do a lot of it. Cakes go to reception desks, meeting rooms, loading docks and concierge desks, with morning and afternoon windows available so the cake lands before the event rather than during it.

For city addresses this solves the parking problem entirely — no circling Queen Street with a cake on the passenger seat.

Sending a cake to someone else

Plenty of our deliveries are gifts. You can order from anywhere in the world and have a cake arrive at an Auckland address on a chosen date, with a message written on the cake itself or included on a card.

If you are ordering from overseas, order online through the boutique, use the recipient's address at checkout, and tell us the date. We will handle the rest and let you know when it is on its way.
